👀 The Customer Journey team at Shine
The Customer Journey team owns the critical early moments of a customer's life with Shine, from company creation through to full onboarding, making each step feel effortless. The team is a composed of a blend of remote and in person colleagues, primarily based in France, and physical locations in Berlin and Paris.We sit within the broader Customer Lifecycle area, who aim to get every business verified fast, monitored continuously, and exited cleanly, protecting Shine and its customers from financial crime. This distributed model has been highly effective in enabling our mission of building a best-in-class, highly automated onboarding experience across all our European markets.
As a business, we’re accelerating our growth plans, as we look to support even more customers across Europe, whilst at a team level, we continue to evolve in order to better align with and support our mission, and have been in a period of change. 📋 Your role as an Engineering Manager in Customer Journey
The Customer Journey team shapes the first-impression that thousands of freelancers and entrepreneurs have of Shine. As an Engineering Manager for the Customer Journey team, you'll oversee a squad of 5 engineers through one of Shine's most strategically important areas. The team is full-stack, and focused on the start of the user journey with the bank - specifically customer onboarding.
We're at an exciting moment, with plans to scale the business and the team, in several countries across Europe in anticipation of significant growth. You and your team, will be key in achieving this ambition, providing the technical support that will enable scalability, allowing us to seamlessly onboard new customers during this period of growth.
We're looking a for someone who deeply believes in lifting up their team (a true servant-leader) and fostering a collaborative, supportive environment where everyone feels valued and connected. You'll balance this alongside, your reliable Delivery Management capabilities, ensuring projects flow smoothly and efficiently.

This means we need you to possess the willingness dive into the technical intricacies, and actively engage in the day-to-day work of the Engineers when the situation demands it.
Whether it's troubleshooting a complex issue, pairing with a team member on a tricky implementation, or helping to clear a critical bottleneck, your direct contribution will be highly valued. Onboarding in a regulated environment means the details matter.
📍 Offices are located in Paris, Berlin, Amsterdam, Copenhagen with two remote days Wednesday and Friday.
🔎 About you
Leadership Experience: You have a proven track record in team leadership, ideally in multicultural, hypergrowth environments. You value empowerment over orders and excel at storytelling to engage your team. You act with integrity, lead with empathy and prioritise team health, creating a psychologically safe environment in which all the team can participate and contribute. Feedback flows up, as well as down, and you'll seek out learning opportunities and facilitate a supportive environment.
Technical Foundation: You have a solid background in software engineering (ideally Node.js/TypeScript/React,microservices and domain driven design) building customer-centric products. You can mentor senior ICs on complex architectural decisions. The team operates on a "You build it, you run it" culture, so being comfortable working across a full-stack, and familiarity with DevOps tooling would be an advantage.
Operational Expertise : You are comfortable with distributed and event-driven systems, cloud environments (GCP/AWS), and you have a high-quality bar for testing and maintainability.
User-Centric & Pragmatic: You think in terms of "outcomes" rather than just "outputs" and, you are pragmatic not dogmatic when it comes to what works and getting things done, favouring an Agile approach.
Growth Mindset: You embody a growth mindset , embracing self-learning and development, and advocating adaptability and continuous individual development among your team.
Experience in fintech, banking, or regulated environments is a significant plus.
